What’s in my head?
Starting over can be a challenge but also an adventure. When life gives you lemons… and every other crazy saying about how life is full of ups and downs, you have to keep going. As part of my new journey, I enrolled in college. I was a stay home mom for 20 years and needed a way to support my family. I found a job at the University of Alaska Fairbanks as an Administrative Assistant. The University has a great scholarship program for full-time employees, and I decided to take advantage of that and enroll for the first time in college. I never imagined I’d be a freshman in college at the age of 47, but here I am, and I have to say It has been challenging balancing everything but also very rewarding.
When starting over, it’s best to start at the beginning, and I enrolled in Begining Drawing. I find it’s always good to have a refresher course in drawing. I also love learning from other artists, their tricks, and their techniques. Every Artist is different and provides a unique perspective.
We combined the symbolic self-portrait idea with a representational portrait for the final project. We had to answer these questions with our self-portraits. What goes on in your head? Where would you rather be? What are your dreams and aspirations? What is your history? We also got to choose from a list of at least five things to include in our drawing. I chose:
A least a half portrait of your face or someone else’s, a color
Contrast (Big vs. Small, Black Vs. White, Monochrome Vs. Color)
A symbol of YOU. A tool, an object, a flower, a pattern, or a color that means a lot to you.
A fruit: Classical paintings have symbolism for different types of fruit
An overt symbol: Something in-your-face that makes up part of your main composition.
An animal: A pet, a representation of home, or your favorite critter.
My Final Project for Beginning Drawing
Can you figure out what is in my head?
I decided to draw myself as a cyborg. Sometimes I feel life is just moving me a long like a computer program.
